Teacher Appreciation Outside of the Classroom

Teachers are the foundation for children’s education. Kids are in school for about 180 days, which is equal to about six months of straight learning. Teachers have to come up with different lessons each day that are educational and engaging- which is not easy to do! They definitely deserve appreciation throughout the year.

Sara Schneider, crop insurance specialist in GreenStone’s Clintonville office shows her appreciation for teachers by getting involved at Saint Paul Lutheran Schools as a room parent. Room parents are volunteers in the school community that help with different activities, like holiday parties and teacher luncheons.

Schneider has been a room parent for a few years now. This year she assisted in her daughters first grade classroom! Once a month, all the room parents assist with serving lunch to the teachers. Schneider says, “It makes them feel like they are appreciated. It is just one day that they do not have to worry about getting up and packing a lunch!”

Not only do the teachers not have to worry about packing a lunch, but they are able to spend time with their kids outside of the classroom by enjoying lunch with them. The Saint Paul Lutheran School is a small school, so when the teachers are able to have lunch with their students it gives them more of an opportunity to engage with their kids.

When you look beyond the surface, you quickly realize the efforts go deeper than the time and meals. Volunteers like Schnieder are teaching kids a lesson outside the classroom and they may not even realize it. They are learning that kindness goes a long way, which is one of the most important lessons they can teach the kids. “They are seeing the nice things that you are doing for other people and the thankfulness that the teachers have during these times,” Schneider says smiling.

GreenStone is proud to have employees like Schneider who gives back to her community. Learn more about our community outreach and engagement efforts by visiting Open Fields Blog | GreenStone FCS.
